A RARE gold coin and an antique jewellery box were stolen during a theft.

Police are appealing for anyone who has been offered a one ounce gold South African Krugerrand coin or a silver plated 1920s trinket box with the letter “N” on top.

The distinctive items were taken, along with other jewellery, from a home in Dover Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight, between October 1 and 8.

A 56-year-old Ryde man has been arrested on suspicion of theft and is now on bail until November 23, pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information should call Detective Constable Andy Cooper at Newport Police Station by phoning 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
