A MAN is in hospital with stab wounds after a fight in a Southampton street.

Police were called to Wharf Road in Woolston at around 8am following several reports from concerned residents that an angry row was going on.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a number of people in nearby Defender Road.

A 24-year-old Southampton man was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to stab wounds to his back.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Three people – a 24-year-old man and two 17-year-old youths, all from Southampton – have been arrested and were this afternoon being questioned by police.

Detectives have sealed off an area around the Defender Road and Wharf Road as scenes of crime specialists hunt for potential clues.

Police are talking to residents living nearby, but are keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone with information about the stabbing.

Anyone with information should call Detective Constable Jenna Osman at Bitterne CID on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Admittedly it's a fair few years old now, but the most recent report I've seen had Southampton as the 3rd most violent city in the UK.

Hey if they want to stab each other don't stop them! The less of them there are the better for the rest of us. Give them weapons, stick them on an island and the last one alive wins, it gets rid of them and would be entertaining for us to watch. Those people will always be a bain on society and cost us loads, just get rid of them as soon/young as possible.

there is more serious crime in Woolston than any other area on the east side of Southampton. According to Police.UK anyway.

Rudimentary, basic people. Backstabber's, pickpockets and illiterate.
Welcome to the township of Southampton.

The music man what a vile little toad you are. The stats say nothing of the sort. I live in Woolston, have done most of my life. I have a law degree, a mortgage and work 2 jobs to pay for it. I am sick to death of the vile snobbery by some of the people on this website. We don't all live off benefits you know!!

Loving the caption on the picture.
"Man stabbed in street fight".. Surely that should be
" Policewoman stands by some steps" ?
