HUNDREDS gathered at Charlton Athletics club for Andover’s Family Fireworks night.

A stunning display provided by Merlin lit up the sky on Saturday, impressing the large crowd which turned out despite the cold conditions.

They were treated to live performances from bands Cookie Monsters and R3- Action, as well as Andover’s Belly Dancers4Life.

A funfair with stalls, a Mr and Mrs Guy Fawkes competition and a performance from Juggletastics fire show added to the atmosphere.

The organising committee, made up of Andover Round Table and Anton Rotary Club, said the event raised approximately £8,000, which will be used to support local charities, worthwhile causes and assist in the running of future fundraising.

Nigel Baxendale, of the organising committee, said: “Having been involved with the Andover Fireworks events run by Andover Round Table and its partners for about 20 years I was thrilled at how this year’s event went.

“Merlin did us proud again with a fantastic grand display, plus the earlier mini show for small children.

“It was a great night. I know that all of the committee were very pleased with the support we got from the community and the local businesses that supported us.”

The organisers thanked all those who supported this year’s display, including the companies that advertised in the programme, the entertainers, Andover Athletics Club, the Scouts, Howard Tenens, Andover Rotary Club, Andover 41 Club and Inner Wheel. Thanks also go to Britax and Test Valley Borough Council for the use of their car parks as well as to Ben’s Quality Dry Cleaners, Oakley Cleaners, The Lights, Andover Leisure Centre, Asda and Winton School for their help in selling advance tickets and Thruxton Post Office for the loan of barriers.
