SHOPPERS in Southampton got a shock when they were faced with a herd of rhinos in WestQuay.
The event was hosted by Marwell Wildlife to officially launch their public art extravaganza Go! Rhinos which will see life-sized sculptures pop up across the city next summer.
Complete with a wildlife ranger and multicoloured rhinos, the jungle scene attracted lots of interest from passers-by who were intrigued to find out what was going on.
Overwhelming support from the business and school communities has ensured the Daily Echo-backed project will take place over ten weeks, creating an amazing trail across the city to raise awareness of the plight of these incredible creatures and give a welcome boost to the city’s economy.
Businesses can pay between £3,500 to £4,000 for a sculpture, which they can then choose to decorate with one of a variety of designs by local artists, while schools will be offered mini rhinos and an education pack full of activities for £375.
