LYMINGTON’S famous seawater baths could host a large number of extra activities in a bid to revitalise the site.

Council chiefs have received two approaches from entrepreneurs who want to transform the loss-making facility and help it attract more visitors.

The baths, which celebrate their 180th anniversary next year, already offer kayaking as well as swimming.

Members of the town council’s amenities committee were told the authority has been contacted by a leisure operator who aimed to provide a “wide range” of additional activities.

The proposals are understood to include new equipment that would make the baths more of an adventure pool.

A report to councillors said: “Kayaking was introduced at the baths last year. This proved that additional activities can be introduced which attract additional visitors and contribute to the running costs.”

After the meeting the chairman, Councillor John Olliff- Cooper, revealed that another interested party had also come forward.

The pool only operates during the summer and members hope the introduction of extra attractions would extend the opening season by several weeks.
