HUNDREDS of red poppies were used to create wreaths to mark Remembrance Day at Testbourne Community School.

Every pupil at the school, in Micheldever Road, Whitchurch, contributed to the Act of Remembrance during an assembly on November 9.

A representative from each tutor group presented the wreaths, created with a poppy from every student, some bearing the names of relatives who had died in conflict or who serve in the armed forces.

Head boy Eliot Kerr and head girl Mia Bright were joined by their deputies Kate Eagleton and Ben Cousins to read the words of men who had served their country across the generations, including 19-year-old Aron Shelton who lost his leg after being injured by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

A silence was observed at 11am, followed by Last Post, played by GCSE music student Adam Turner.

Hilary Jackson, headteacher, said: “There have been worries expressed in the press that today’s young people will not remember, as the older generation do, those who have served and suffered or died.

“If Testbourne students are anything to go by then Remembrance will be safe in their hands for many years to come.”
