A SEARCH to find selfless heroes living in the heart of our communities continues with a teenage girl who saved her young brother’s life.

Courtney Lanfear put her first aid training into practice when she gave three-year-old Lucas the kiss of life when she noticed his cot shaking as he suffered a seizure.

Despite the alarming sight of seeing her brother turn blue and not breathing, 13-year-old Courtney, pictured with Lucas, put her first aid skills to good use even before her mum had a chance to speak to paramedics.

The Sholing Technology College student called her mother, Kim, but by the time she had run upstairs and called the paramedics to her Blackthorn Road home, Courtney had sprung into action and was giving little Lucas chest compressions.

It is because of her quick thinking that she has been nominated for the Hampshire Heroes award by her judo teacher Jon Busuttil, head coach at the Southampton-based Golden Condor judo club.

The Daily Echo is running the Hampshire Heroes Awards to honour those who have gone the extra mile for those people in their neighbourhood.

Sarah Wallbridge, spokesperson for awards partner First Hampshire and Dorset, commented: “Courtney is a true inspiration. She reacted calmly despite being under immense pressure, putting the things she’d learnt at college in her first aid course to excellent use.

“It must be terrifying to see your younger brother fitting, and yet she acted with courage and bravery and as a result helped to save his life.

“She thoroughly deserves this Hampshire Hero Award. Well done, Courtney.
