Fans refused entry to Mumford & Sons gig at Portsmouth Guildhall

Mumford & Sons Mumford & Sons

HUNDREDS of concertgoers were turned away from a Hampshire venue last night after falling victim to an apparent fake ticket scam.

Some of those refused entry to the Mumford & Sons concert had reportedly paid up to £280 for their tickets.

More than 200 people were told they cannot enter Portsmouth Guildhall for the gig.

It is believed most of the fake tickets had been purchased through online agents.

Police have been informed and are reportedly investigating the apparent scam.

Concertgoers reported a “commotion” outside the venue as long queues formed while staff checked tickets, stamping “cancelled” on any found not to be genuine.

Those with invalid tickets were also handed letters explaining the situation to them, and warning that one in ten people fall victim to ticket fraud.

The folk band, led by frontman Marcus Mumford, were at the Hampshire venue as part of their ongoing UK tour.

They shot to fame in September 2009 after releasing debut single, Little Lion Man.

Their debut album, Sigh No More, which was released in October 2009, reached number two in the UK album chart.

It went on to win a Brit Award in 2011 for Best British Album.

The band's second album, released just two months ago, flew into the UK charts at number one, while also bagging top spot in the US.

Seriously?! Most overrated band ever? How many bands do you know of where the lead singer plays the bass drum with one foot, tambourine with the other foot, plays rhythm guitar and also sings.. all at the same time?! Guess you prefer manufactured music like one direction rather than a real band who play there own music! Anyone who hasn't seen them I suggest watching any of there live songs on YouTube and see for yourself!

The business norm of PFC will see that £280 quickly reduce to 11.2p if certain C.V.A. calculations are used to pay them back.

11.2p, over 5 years, less administration costs that is.

Just a thought.

"Over Educated" Of course. Better to be thick and angry and read the Daily Mirror.

Unlike your good self, who clearly is rather lacking in quality education, as you can't string a set of sentences together - spelling, punctuation and grammar all faulty. :-p

Here is a perfectly fair and measured review of Mumford & Sons, for those unfamiliar with their work:

They were one of the best-selling bands of the 90s - I don't think they're that underrated.

(Unless you include the Nicky Wire solo album which was amazing but only bought by seven people.)

Does being a 'real' band who write their own songs and play their own instruments make you better than someone that doesn't?

Are Shed 7 therefore better than Elvis Presley?

Nowt wrong with ****. You don't have to chat it up, by it drinks, give it a lift home and you can adjust how tight you want it. It doesn't whinge at you, or tell you not to go to football. You spend your £280 watching a load of losers mugging you off.

Why doesn't he also strap some cymbals to his knees and get a harmonica?
Then he could become a one man band, sack the others, and keep all the money for himself!
