THREE men posing as loft insulation surveyors conned their way into the home of an elderly Southampton woman.

Police are appealing for help identifying the men, who called at the 88-year-old’s house in Clarendon Road, Shirley.

Two of the men went upstairs, while one stayed with the pensioner downstairs.

One of the bogus callers – described as white with tanned skin, 5ft 10 to 11ins tall and aged between 40 and 50 with short, well-cut dark brown hair – drove off in a dark-coloured vehicle towards Shirley High Street.

This man, who spoke with an English accent, wore a brown tweed jacket which he reversed when he got in the car, showing a blue lining.

The other two men left on foot, and the woman reported that no property was missing.

Detective Constable Louise Mills wants to hear from anyone in the Clarendon Road area who had similar callers on or around November 16.

She also wants to hear from any of the three men, to establish whether they were genuine loft insulation surveyors.

DC Mills said: “It should be a reminder to all of us to always check identification of any callers before allowing them to enter our homes.”

Anyone with information should call DC Mills at Shirley CID on 101.
