A THIRD man has been charged over an arson attack at a Southampton home while a man was asleep upstairs.

The scared 27-year-old lodger at the house in Brighton Road, Banister Park, was woken at around 1am on September 17 by a smoke alarm and managed to extinguish the fire downstairs before it took hold.

Detectives have now charged Christy Flaherty, 19, of Malmesbury Road, Shirley, with arson with intent to endanger life.

He is due to appear before Southampton Magistrates’ Court on December 7.

Stephen Lang, 20, from Burgess Road, Swaythling, and Calvin Lawrence, 26, of Hansler Road, East Dulwich, south London, have already been charged with the same offence.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have seen anyone suspicious in the area to come forward.

Anyone with details can call Detective Constable Tom Hewitt at Bitterne CID on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
