Men arrested following Andover sex attack

First published in News

TWO men have been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault that happened in an alleyway in Andover on Monday.

Sometime between 2.30pm and 7.45pm, a woman aged in her 40s, was walking through a covered alleyway which runs through Winton Court in the Heath Vale area of Andover when she was forced into the garden of a derelict building and assaulted.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Murray said: “We have made two arrests in connection with this incident, which was a serious, unprovoked attack on a lone woman.

“Our enquiries are much ongoing and we are still appealing for information and witnesses.

“If you have any information that can help us, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, please get it touch."

Chief Inspector Simon Dodds said: “We are working closely with the investigation team and our local Safer Neighbourhoods officers are out and about in the area should anyone have any concerns.”

Anyone with any information should contact Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Investigation Team at Andover police station quoting Operation Weavers on 101 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Glad there has been progress on this case, just hope its that scumbag! Looking through the news on here and so much crime is going on in andover! Just hope something can be changed to help this country. Alley ways should be welll lit and cctv would be good. Laws should be stricter! Police should carry weapons and prison should be Hell on earth, justice should be served. But its sad to say the way things are at the moment were just not safe anywhere anymore. Something needs to be done, and fast. It may cost money but that is one of the things us working class citizens pay for safer environments.

I really Hope the poor victim is ok. And all my wishes to the family of the lady.

RH, we have to have some faith in our police force and that they are trying to do their best under very difficult circumstances. Good luck to them.

The very fact the Conservative Party have - and are - still reducing police resources in Andover proves without any doubt that our elected MP (SGY) and our local Conservative councilors simply do not care about the people of Andover.

In our neck of the wood only 1 one of the 3 Conservative councilors (Phil North) actually lives in Andover. The other 2 live miles away and couldn't care a toss what happens here.

I have some sympathy with the very over-worked Police force. They are bound to make mistakes under such pressure.

Apologies. Alexander Brook lives in Andover too. But seeing as he/she (?) isn't actively helping solve any problems we have in the area, I think he/she (?) shouldn't count.

they are NEVER overworked, if only they managed their resources better! Stop wasting time and money on plastic pcso's and get back to some real policing with an authorative presence would be a start. They (the police) only have themselves to blame for losing their grip on the beirut area (Kaw & roman) afraid to get out of their cars and deal with it and the rest of the town has to suffer even got a part time police station. Crime stats are shocking (or worse) and andover is fast becoming a hot bed but hampshire police are so so complacent not realising andover is a potential time bomb. Nothing to do with politics they have more than enough cash its just the way they waste it and the oafs they emply at all levels.
