WITH thousands expected to charge on Southampton next summer to get a glimpse of multi-coloured rhinos grazing in the streets, it is not surprising that city hoteliers have snapped up the chance to get in on the action.

Determined to help make Marwell Wildlife’s Go! Rhinos a huge success, the Southampton and Region Hoteliers Association have sponsored their very own life-sized rhino.

The public art extravaganza, backed by the Daily Echo, has already won great support from businesses and schools across the county, all eager to be part of the amazing trail through the city that promises to boost the economy and raise awareness of the incredible creatures in the wild.

Gavin Elliott, managing director of Chilworth Manor and chair of the Hotel Association, said: “The Southampton and Region Hoteliers Association are passionate about attracting customers to our region and see the Go! Rhinos project as a fantastic opportunity to participate and contribute to what we firmly believe will be a massive hit for the city of Southampton next year.”

The project is asking businesses to pay between £3,500 to £4,000 for a sculpture, which they can then choose to decorate with one of a variety of designs by local artists.

Some of the proceeds from the auction of the sculptures at the end of the ten-week trail through the city, will go towards Marwell Wildlife’s work with rhino conservation. Money will also go towards other conservation projects within the park, as well as the Rose Road Association.
