POLICE officers searching for a missing pensioner have found a body.

An officer involved in the search for 92-year-old Andrew Parsons on the Isle of Wight, made the discovery at 9.20am this morning near the shoreline in the Compton Bay area.

A relative of Andrew Parsons has been contacted and notified about the discovery.

Formal identification of the body and a post-mortem examination will take place in the next few days.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Isle of Wight District Chief Inspector Nick Heelan said: “Although formal identification of the body cannot be completed at this time, police are stopping their search for Mr Parsons. Officers will remain in contact with his family to offer support for their welfare.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their tremendous response and assistance with this search, particularly HM Coastguard, volunteers from WightSAR and members of the public.”
