TRIBUTES have been paid to the lollipop man who died after being hit by a car outside a Hampshire school.
Raymond Elsmore, 82, died at Southampton General Hospital after being in collision with a Nissan Micra yesterday afternoon.
Mr Elsmore, of Florentine Way, Waterlooville was working outside Queens Inclosure Primary School in Waterlooville at the time of the incident at 3.05pm yesterday.
He was taken to Southampton by air ambulance but later died of head injuries.
The 21-year-old driver, who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Micra, was uninjured in the incident. She was arrested by police and later released on bail.
In a statement, Mr Elsmore's family said: "We are shocked and devastated to have lost Ray who meant so much to so many.
"We feel so lucky to have shared our life with someone so fun-loving, happy, friendly and caring.
"We are very touched by eveyone's kind tributes."
