Revealed: The 25,000 victims of domestic violence
11:12am Monday 10th December 2012 in News
The 25,000 victims of domestic violence
IT’S one of the most terrifying yet often unspoken about crimes and at its peak can see 12 victims every hour in Hampshire.
Since April this year almost 25,000 people have suffered domestic violence at the hands of an aggressive partner – and they are just the ones that get reported.
Today, as the festive period gets under way when calls typically spiral by 20 per cent, police and council chiefs have launched a campaign to encourage victims to speak out and seek help.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Snuggs, leading the initiative, said: “The message is simple – if you don’t speak out today there might not be a tomorrow”.

Councils all over England have been or will be cutting funds to the victims of domestic violence, and that includes both Hampshire and Southampton.
So cases will be reported but nothing will be done to help people.

But what most campaigns ignore is the significant minority of male victims and female aggressors. Not as prevalent of course, but still certainly significant and undoubtedly even MORE under-reported than female victims. Even worse, when it IS reported then the police often laugh at the victim and tell them to 'man up' or similar.
The 'grim toll' article says:
"As part of the campaign stickers are being placed in men’s bathrooms in clubs and pubs in 85 venues across Hampshire.
And police will target female victims for the first time by using social media to encourage victims to speak out."
On that evidence, it looks like the same mistake is being made yet again.
We should be making ALL domestic violence unacceptable, not just the violence against women.

Any campaign against domestic violence is a good thing.

My ex partner knew this and would use that as weapon against, I agree it's more common for women to be victims but it works both ways.

Its to late now to get that billions that have been lost in none tax intrest payment thats been going on since the mid 1980's, all that can be done now is to put back the finence restrictions so the money do not leave the uk into private accounts and will remain in the uk and where the interest can be tax, like it is for every one who do not have enough money to open a off shore tax free bank account.

Can't have it both ways girls! My ex wife said to me that I obviously didn't love her as I had not blackened any of her eyes over the 10 years we were together !! - and that if I really had loved her i would have broken a few of her bones also. Absolutely 100% true;so don't tell me about "Domestic Violence" - most of it is self inflicted through bad choices of partner or "liking" a partner to be aggressive natured which they find very very attractive.until it backfires.

The people should not fear its Government, but the Government should fear its people.
The right of Democratic society is the right to bring down a government and make changes to elect a new government at any time, so they are not dictating they are excising the right for the majority and not the few.

You have a weaker government of the 1974 Tory Government under Ted Heath, and this government broke all records on how short term they was in office. Where the people of this country turned against them.

I duno, although there is no excuse for unprovoked violence in a non controlled setting, there is some truth to what the man said. sometimes it can be choice of partner im sorry to say, id be intersted to know how many of these reports are re-occurnces. surely after the first time someone hits you, you wouldint want to see them ever again and you would file for an injunction.
You both clearly have no idea what victims of domestic abuse go through. Its not as simple as " the first time you are hit- leave" Often perps of domestic violence have run down self confidence to such a level that they cannot leave, or think that they have nobody to turn to. Why do you think so many stay in those relationships? because its fun to be beaten/raped etc?
Of course not.
No man or woman should be subjected to any violence EVER by their spouce. Its not a debate- there are no circumstances when it is EVER exceptable.
