WHAT better way to show how much you care for your loved ones than by making sure they drive safe?

While December can be a winter wonderland, it can also be lethal on the roads – but you could be making sure your family drives safe with a little help from Halfords.

Today we are offering two lucky Daily Echo readers £100 worth of Halfords vouchers with Green Flag Breakdown.

It is all part of the Daily Echo’s Win Christmas competition, where every day up to Christmas we give out fabulous prizes that will make the festive season extra special.

We all know the dangers winter driving can pose to us and our families.

New research from Green Flag shows that 9.8 million motorists skidded on wet or icy roads last year, while three million got stuck in the snow.

It’s the stuff of winter nightmares, yet millions are risking their own safety by ignoring basic car checks and failing to take the right precautions.

According to Green Flag, a massive 16.2 million admit to driving without a simple necessity like a torch, 19.5 million without a blanket and 10.5 million travel without taking a spare tyre.

Even more concerning is that 9.4 million won’t check their battery this winter, risking being stranded in the snow or having accidents on the icy roads.

Green Flag has put together some helpful tips to keep you moving and safe this winter:

Make sure you check your oil levels regularly

Use anti-freeze in your radiator and winter washer fluid to ensure reliability

Ensure your tyres are properly inflated

Carry a winter survival pack if something goes wrong; a few snacks and a blanket while you wait for breakdown assistance.
