ON SATURDAY, December 8, a record number of 10 athletes from Penarth and Dinas Runners gained County Vests by representing the South Wales Region in the Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships held at Builth Wells.

The Masters Men's race was the first race in which Knill Baird-Murray, Abyd Quinn Aziz and Rob Wilson from Penarth & Dinas ran. The course was a tough, hilly and muddy 8.1 km.

Knill did very well to finish in 59th overall position, 22nd in his age category, with Abyd in 80th position and 33rd in his age category. Unfortunately Rob suffered an injury on the course and did not finish.

The Masters Ladies race was next with Lisa Cleary finishing 14th overall and 7th in her age category followed by Andrea Hurman in 30th place, 16th in age category, Heather Dennis was next in 50th/23rd in age category, Yvonne Williams 55th/30th age cat, closely followed by Anna Helsing in 58th position and 33rd in age category.

The next race was the Senior Ladies, 6.1km race in which Rachel Morath and Anne Wendt ran from Penarth & Dinas. With a small, elite field both ladies did well to complete the tough course. Rachel finished in 14th position with Anne finishing in 17th.

• Penarth and Dinas Runners meet every Monday evening at Penarth Leisure Centre at 7pm, with the next session scheduled for December 31.
