TWO Winchester teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment.

Police have appealed for the victims of an incident in Winchester city centre to come forward.

A man witnessed two males make racist comments when a black woman walked by. They were standing on steps in the alleyway between Tower Street and Staple Gardens.

The witness then saw the offenders verbally abuse a white man at 8.15am on Thursday, December 6.

The two men were released on police bail.

Call Winchester police station on 101, or Crime-stoppers on 0800 555 111.

If I said I'd witnessed a vicious assault by those two men without stating the colour of the victim the police would say "Are there any other witnesses?" If I said no, the police would say "Well it's your word against theirs then" and put the phone down. Thanks to this obsession with so called "racist" crimes we get a colossal waste of bureucratic money BUT (big but) the race hate industry(lawyers, pressure groups, activists) gets another statistic to "prove" how racist we all are. The police collude in this tripe - no wonder the public has lost all respect for them.

Yes, and they use racist language when it suits them against white's, but that's rarely, if ever, investigated as their counter claim, even if false, counts for more!

aaaah , the usual paranoid observations by those who think banter between black dudes who mutually use the N-word ironically is the same as verbal racial abuse... well its NOT.

Anyone can use the N-word ironically amongst friends , it does not matter if you are white, green or pink.

But its not acceptable ( indeed often a criminal offence ) to use racist terms in a discriminatory or abusive way.

Its not a hard concept to understand.

Regards this story, if the victim corroborates the witnesses story then iits not one-word-against-ano
ther, its two words against the accused which will be enough to prosecute.

Regards the society of black lawyers, thats a lie, they are not allowed to reject anyone's application on their colour, thats illegal.

It's not a hard concept to understand MGRA but to inflate one form of abuse to astronomic proportions way beyond the actual harm done and for political reasons is what drives rational people wild. There is not as much true "racism" in this country as is made out, but there is a lot of reaction and resentment to this inflation which is then itself classed as racism, thus artifically inflating the problen beyond its true size.THe media (and hence the police) have become absolutely and totally over obsessed to a point beyond rational sense and comprehension. I have been personally insulted and abused like everyone else and I can tell you, it does not change your life, especially not in the UK and you know know this as well as I do.

Theres a lot of racism in britain. Closet racism, like it or not.

The only reason some brits may think its not the case is because they are not foreign/coloured themselves and are simply not racist. Inflitrate any pub and make people feel its safe to talk openly steer the conversation in that direction and you will hear it all. imperial superiority complex is still apparent. Better still go to a school and you hear the things children say, they most definitly do not lear that from tv.

Its not just UK that's the nature of humanity. Every nation is racist towards outsiders inherently, its the way it works with "us" and "them" tribal mentality, as long as you have countires and boundries it will continue.

Granted some countries are better then others, living a comfortable lie is better then facing an uncomfortable truth in most cases.

I think the two gentlemen in question were just being abusive to anyone. They have abused a black woman and a white man. Dont think they realy cared about colour as long as they can verbaly abuse!!

You regard any attempt to discuss this openly as racist, thereby propagating the problem, not resolving it. I have said quite clearly that the problem is self perpetuating because any bad law will promote an opposite reaction, and all you can do is get "genuinely embarrassed" at a serious argument. So which if us is suppressing discussion? Which of us is driving a small problem underground by simply labelling anyone else trying to discuss it as racist? Which of us is likely to perpetuate a minor problem in this way? If you are labelling me as racist for daring to discuss the issue then you are just as guilty of blanket judgementalism as the people you are trying to criticise. It's a $hitty day for intelligent adult debate, never mind your censorious dogmatic overreaction.

The Wickham man talks sense.I am of more senior years and occasionally referred to as an "old git" although unpleasant it does not actually effect the quality of my life.OK so it may be different if I were black, but can words really cause that much distress?Agreed it is not acceptable to verbally abuse anyone but it would be pretty difficult to go through life without experiencing some sort of unpleasantness. The measure of how tolerent our country is can be measured by the amount of ethnic minorities that make these shores their destination of choice.
