A MAN was repeatedly stabbed in the head and neck on a Southampton street after leaving a Christmas Day party.

Police were called after an ambulance crew helped the 40-year-old victim, who was bleeding heavily, as he walked over Northam Bridge at around 10.40pm, having been at a party at a flat in York Close, Northam.

Officers believe he was stabbed somewhere nearby, after leaving at around 10.30pm.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to five stab wounds, which were said to have luckily not been life threatening.

A 24-year-old Southampton man has been arrested in connection with the attack, and is being questioned by police.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who saw the stabbing or anything suspicious around the York Close area at around the time of the incident to contact Shirley CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
