Bargain hunters have continued to flock to Southampton's WestQuay shopping centre for the traditional post-Christmas sales.

More than 92,400 shoppers went through the doors at the mall on Friday December 28, as the John Lewis sale got underway.

The figures were up on the same time last year, when the popular shopping venue welcomed 87,000 visitors.

It comes after 58,000 shoppers clamoured to get their hands on cut-price goods on Boxing Day, when almost 2,000 people queued from as early as 3.15am to be among the first through the doors.

And 160,000 shoppers visited the mall on the final weekend before Christmas.

General Manager at WestQuay, Andy Collyer, said: “The post-Christmas sales period is always a busy time for WestQuay, and the past few days have proved no exception.

“The majority of our stores are now in sale, with high numbers of shoppers visiting the hugely popular Next sale and John Lewis clearance, and the other retailer sales events taking place around the centre.

“Overall, Christmas trading at WestQuay has been positive and we are looking forward to continuing to welcome even more shoppers as we move into 2013.”
