Police have reopened a Hampshire motorway after a man plunged from a bridge.

Officers shut the eastbound M27 between junctions five and seven shortly after midnight.

It came after Hampshire police received reports that a man had fallen from a bridge over the carriageway.

The man, who has not been named, died at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said the road would remain closed while their investigations into the incident continued.

It was eventually reopened by 10am. The spokesman added that no further details would be given about the incident.

Ohec, the investigations need to be carried out in order to determine there's nothing suspicious.

There are numerous possibilities as to the cause of the death, not necessarily suicide. In the absence of further info it is wrong to speculate.

A sad start to 2013.

Ohec lets hope it isn't a cherished member of your own kith and kin. He hasn't been named yet.

A male member of my own family hasn't returned home yet after the festivities, of course he may well be sleeping over with friends, still I am worried as I haven't heard from him at all yet. (Not unusual) - Young so goes where they all go ie going to that place called out and with 'friends'.

Sad news, love and condolences for the family of the man, tragic loss.

A very sad way to start 2013,Thoughts reaching out to his family & friends,This poor man was ovbiously in a state of depression,Had he previously visted a GP or Someone else to tell of his state of mind ? Had he recently lost a loved one ? No-one knows so comments about a "selfish" act is completely disrespectful to the man who has passed away & the man's family.If you don't like reading these sort of stories don't read them its that simple,R.I.P Fella hopefully your in a better place now.

Also as someone else previously stated,The male could of been drunk or could of been resting on the way home or something & tragically falled,Hence why the road was closed due to a investagation.

those poor souls who have reached the end - the end as far as they can see - have no thoughts of how much 'inconvenience' or trauma they might cause others. they are eaten up with despair and cannot see past the sadness or hopelessness of their lives. they need our compassion, our support, our friendship, to find a way back from the depths to which they have fallen. my sincerest condolences to the family.

As the relative of someone who took his life earlier inthe year we will never truly understand WHY. Is it a zelfish thing to do? It certainly stopped the pain fir him but started the pain for
Us!!
As the mother of someone who hit this person on the motorway my son and his girlfriend are ttotally distressed. Waiting several hours to get them off the motorway I fully understand why it was closed for si long. If this inconveienced anyone that's just tough. Think of the heartbroken family who are going through such sadness and maybe never got to say goodbye.
Alll the mire traffic if thus was an accident due to alcohol

Thoughts are with the family of the person who died. Thoughts are also with the drivers and emergency services who had to deal with the retrival of the remains. There is a support group available locally for all those affected locally for those bereaved by suicide also those who witnessed the dreadful event. www.sobshampshire.bt

I was at this incident last night and it was my friends that saw him go over he spent time in the pub we in!! before you people comment think of his family and the people that were there witnessing it all it was very sad

Sometimes I sit here in dis-belief as to what some people can write. Only a day into 2013 and here we have a tragedy, not only in the fact it could be a possible suicide, but have read such comments saying quite a few vehicles hit the body therefore giving the police some job as to do the clean up and allow themselves time to start the investigation. I do hope it does come out as a tragic accident, only last week on Christmas eve a young lad who works in a local supermarket took his own life, the effect it's had on the local people and fellow co-workers so far is awful. What goes around comes around, so people who just blab away without any form of remorse will one day suffer in some shape or form no doubt, shoe will firmly be on the other foot then, won't it... Happy New year to all who show some respect and are decent citizens

He was a lovely guy, the people who make such rash, hurtful and unfounded cruel comments should be ashamed. Wait for the facts, my sympathies to the family.

Another friend of mine was involved in a fatal crash and hateful comments assumed the driver was an irresponsible speeding motorist when in fact he suffered a heart attack at the wheel. The Echo should really moderate the comments made.
