The scene following the lorry crash on The Avenue in Southampton The scene following the lorry crash on The Avenue in Southampton

MOTORISTS are being urged to avoid Burgess Road at the junction with The Avenue in Southampton after a collision between a lorry and a car.

Although the accident happened just before 4am today emergency services have been unable to clear the vehicles following the crash that also damaged a set of traffic lights.

According to Hampshire police the lights have not yet been repaired leading to congestion in the area.

The lorry driver suffered a minor cut as a result of the collision with a Vauxhall Zafira at 3.47am.

It is hoped work to start the repairs and recovery will begin after this morning’s rush hour.

I was there before the police - the occupants of the car did not leave the scene - they didn't seem to have any major injuries and were with the police when I left - their car had both air bags deployed and the windscreen was majorly cracked

fortunately no serious injuries, and best wishes to the driver. but the second and third pictures showing the "driving standards" logo are priceless!

best thing I've seen since someone knocked down the "welcome to harefield please drive carefully" sign a few years back.

Why do you feel the need to mention that they are polish? They could of been from Scotland but I bet you wouldn't have said that would you? Go and troll some other place you little rat

He said that the Police told his father this as one of the occupants stayed at the scene. Presumably the guy who stayed at the scene told the police the name and nationality of the driver. When a driver flees the scene there is usually a pretty good reason!! Drink, drugs, stolen car, on the run from the Police.

They were Eastern European - not that that really has any bearing on it and judging from where the car ended up were flying up the avenue apparently on way to a port - they did not flee - I was with the lorry driver and was keeping on eye on them in case they did flee - police arrived - they were still there

Hold on, how on earth does a little car cause a 7.5Tonne truck to crash? Surely the car would have felt like a speed bump?

Thx for the medal - it did feel a bump - it mounted the kerb n swerved 300m or so down the opposite of the road before stopping - both air bags inflated and windscreen shattered - at least one Eastern European had blood down his face - my reason for posting is for clarity - someone earlier stared they had made off, they didn't

But why keep mentioning that they were Eastern European? Does it make a difference? Why don't u tell us where the lorry drivers from or perhaps the police officers or paramedics? Does it really matter or do you have something against them?

Zafi's aren't little, and if you look on youtube there are quite a few video's of 'small' car's deflecting LARGE trucks.

A high speed small projectile, say a .243 bullet weighing a few gram's, can knock over a heavy steel plate weighing 10 kilograms, the kinetic energy of a car weighing ~1400 Kg PLUS passengers/luggage is more than enough to deflect a 7.5 Tonne truck.
