POLICE have resumed the search for a man who is believed to have jumped from the Itchen Bridge last night.

Eye witnesses reported seeing a man standing over the guard rails of the bridge before he was seen to jump from the Southampton landmark at around 6pm.

A search involving HM Coastguard and Hampshire police’s marine unit was launched before being called off by 11pm.

Police marine units and land searches were deployed this morning to resume the search for the man.

very glad to see the echo have removed the lame and unacceptable comments that were on here earlier. Just heard on the radio the man was believed to be in his early twenties, so very sad. my heart goes out to the family at this very hard time.

Yes quite agree little miss chatterbox. Although if you read the other story about the search has been called off, (earlier) morons are still posting stupid comments, one idiot mentioned bungee jumping - Lets hope he doesn't find himself in a bad place in years to come...

If you knew the person or their family then you have the right to take offence at 'insensitive' comments. Otherwise you are pointlessly taking offence just for the sake of it, at something which does not affect you whatsoever.
