Police continue search for man who jumped from Itchen Bridge in Southampton

POLICE have issued photos of a man they believed jumped from the Itchen Bridge in Southampton earlier this week.

Officers believe he was Christopher Spikesman, from Languard Road, Shirley.

Police were called to the bridge by worried members of the public who saw a man looking like he was about to jump at around 5:50pm on Tuesday.

Despite police quickly arriving at the scene and speaking to him he did jump and was seen to land in the water and splash around before disappearing from view. An extensive search was carried out at the time by police and the coastguard but he was not located and it’s feared he may have drowned.

Further sea and shoreline searches have been carried out but so far he has not been found.

Police are continuing with enquiries to find him. There is a possibility, though slim, that he survived the fall and has got out the water somewhere himself.

Officers are asking for anyone who may know where he is or have seen him to contact them.

Mr Spikesman, 27, is described as white, slim, around 5ft 6 inches tall with brown eyes and short black hair. He also has a large number of tattoos.

These include a number on his arms and among others the words ‘Hide From The Sun’ on the front of his neck. He also has two small tattoos on his face - one of a shark the other of three stars. He also has a pierced lip.

Anyone who does have any information about the whereabouts of Chris is asked to contact the Duty Sergeant at Southampton Central Police Station on 101.

I pray to God they find him and give him the help and support he needs, he has a beautiful son and a large community of friends who love his free spirit, 27 is no age, it deeply saddens me to think he had no one to turn to.

Unfortunately hope is all there is as sadly it has been said to be very unlikely that he will be found alive, but we can still hope...27 is simply to young to go exploring the other side. So hopefully somehow he did get out and is out there somewhere :(

no sympathy for the bloke. if he left behind 2 sons then id say he was a selfish person. no matter what circumstances he had there is no reason to top him self and leave the kids behind to suffer the loss of there dad.

he oviously had some phsycho problems, drugs maybe.

I think personally it is wrong for anyone to judge a person. Unless they know the full story. Only he knows why he did it therefore people should keep their opinions to themselves and actually think of his family and friends who will read this!
Thoughts are with them at this time.

Is there anyway to keep updated on this? I live in newfoundland, Canada .Chris lived here for a while. We ( his friends from here ) are all checking this site a hundred times a day. Please tell me if possible to get emails on related news :(

Chris, I hope wherever you are you're found safe and alive! Your children need you man! Loved by so many people, always knew how to have a good time! I don't quite know what else to say at this moment in time, still quite upsetting knowing you may no longer be with us...

This is a story regarding Ryan Perks and his death falling from a bridge overlooking the M27 one commentator made their point and was subsequently blasted by many poster’s who saw the comment and the original post has been deleted, probably by the Echo after complaints.
Whilst you are perfectly entitled to your opinions, please spare a thought to those he left behind.

Because there is no news to report, he has not shown up and neither has his body been found...it might take weeks before there's anything new to report unfortunately.
