A HAMPSHIRE teenager has been charged with assaulting a police officer.

The 33-year-old Bitterne based police constable was attacked after he chased a youth who ran off during a stop and search in Fritham Road, Harefield.

The youth is alleged to have swung his arm around to break free when the officer grabbed him, causing the officer to fall to the ground, leaving him needing ten stitches to his forehead.

He also suffered cuts and bruises and ligament damage to his knees.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with actual bodily harm and has been bailed to appear before Southampton Youth Court on January 31.

Anyone who saw the incident on January 8, at around 3.45pm, should call Bitterne CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Why can't the offender be named? He's an adult as far as the Police & Criminal Evidence Act is concerned.

I wonder whether the policeman's report is accurate? Were their reasonable grounds for the search? Was the force used reasonable? Was the youth threatened unreasonably giving him legitimate reason to run?

Unfortunately it's impossible to the officer's account for granted these days, given the reams of lies that have been exposed over 'Plebgate', Hillsborough, Duggan, De Menezes, Tomlinson, etc etc etc. The list is depressingly long.

I feel sorry for the honest coppers (as this young man may well be), as they also pay the price for their colleagues' corruption.

I grew up trusting that the police were always the good guys. How naive. :-(

Makes me laugh how much publicity this gets. I don't agree with anyone being hurt but you know every time he puts the uniform it will be dangerous. It wasn't to long ago my brother was jumped by 3 lads leaving in hospital with a lot more than 10 stitches the police said they had no leads so couldn't do anymore. No appeal to the public for info. I suppose it doesn't matter really because he's not a police man. And yes I am p1$$ed off

Anything to do with sections 39 and 49 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1939 perchance?
