Works on Millbrook Road West to be expanded to second lane

MAJOR roadworks on one of Southampton's busiest roads will force a second lane closure council bosses have revealed today.

The essential work ahead of the opening of the new multi-million pound Costo store, which started on Monday, had expected to only require one lane closure on Millbrook Road West.

However, the middle lane will now be closed over night from January 21, to improve access for Southern Gas Network as they carry out main repairs.

The night time closures will be in place from 8pm until 6am, for an estimated three weeks but lane three will remain closed 24 hours a day.

The additional phases of works will be delayed by one week.

As previously reported, the Costco superstore, renowned for being a low-cost wholesaler, will create about 132 full-time and 117 part-time jobs for the city.

Spanning 13,000sq m and offering 4,000 different items, the store will help confirm the city's claim to be the south's retail hub.
