SOUTHAMPTON hospital bosses have been awarded hundreds of thousands of pounds to upgrade the city’s maternity unit.
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Princess Anne Hospital, has been given £370,000 as part of a £25m national makeover of maternity units.
The money in Southampton will be used to improve accommodation for women, ensuring it is respectful and supportive to their birthing needs to make their labour and birth experience the best it can be.
This will include upgrades to the labour ward, making sure that there is enough room to move around within birthing rooms, have en suite facilities and have fold-down beds for partners, to ensure they are present whatever time the baby decides to arrive.
A total of 100 hospitals across the UK have been given different amounts from the £25m pot being handed out by the Government.
