Driver broke teen's jaw after he threw snowball at his car

Daily Echo: Driver broke teenager's jaw after he threw snowball at his car Driver broke teenager's jaw after he threw snowball at his car

A furious Southampton driver broke a teenger’s jaw after accusing him of throwing a snowball at his car.

The 16-year-old is expected to have to undergo an operation to fit a metal plate in his jaw after he was assaulted by man while he was taking part in a snowball fight with friends.

He was in woods known as Bunny Hill close to Willow Tree Walk and South East Road when the group of five were approached by two men from the road.

They accused them of throwing a snowball at their car smashing a window.

The group fled but as the victim went past the men one of the men grabbed his coat.

He was then punched in the face and kicked once in the same place after he fell to the ground leaving him with a broken jaw and losing a tooth.

The men then got distracted and the victim ran from the pair who assaulted him at 6.35pm on January 21.

One of the men is black, five foot eight inches tall, stocky build, with short shaved with The other is white, six foot and of skinny build with short fair hair and wearing a blue jacket.

Officers appealed for witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Constable Esra Phillipson-Masters at Bitterne CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I hope this guy gets compensation for his broken jaw - then he can pay for the damage to the car window.

Typical loutish car driver behaviour. As an assault he should be locked up. There is no possible excuse for violence certainly not over damage to an inanimate object.

With such a stupid comment, I imagine that you think they will be able take fingerprints from the snowball to prove that it was him that threw it.

how dangerous and stupid are the children of today, whilst i was driving down butts road i saw 3 lads deliberately throwing snowballs at passing cars and one hit the roof of the car next to me, throwing snowballs at passing cars is dangerous and could cause majar accidents, people could be killed and it was school kick out time and to be honest when i stopped my car and looked at these boys they must have been at 15 years old, one of them saw me glaring at them and then one of the other lads looked at me as if to say "come on then" he was very intimidating, its not nice at all
dont think violence was appropriate they should have called the police, these kids needs to be dealt with

What would you have done if he broke the window of your car?

I don't condone breaking his jaw and didn't say that anything of the sort. I am just fed up with lefties sticking up for toe-rags that cause damage and then make out they were the victims.

The use of violence inflicting GBH in this incident is completely unjustified if the circumstances are correctly reported. The crook who inflicted the injury needs to see the inside of a Police cell and a Court dock and make reparations to the injured party. The crook can explain to the Magistrate his reasons as mitigation but inflicting GBH for snowball damage is not going to gain too much empathy from the judiciary.

Some interesting comments and fair comments, but to the absolute morons that said either they would have done the same or that this nipper deserved it, please take a step back and imagine your 16 year old son, brother, nephew, godson, friend, had been punched once in the face hard enough to drop him to the ground, and for a coward to them kick that bleeding scared young boy in the head causing a broken jaw and fractured temple, which then meant that this child, and lets not forget, it's a child, to have to pick himself up and stumble past these people to walk himself home dripping in blood. You are an absolute disgrace and should feel utterly ashamed. I am not going to enter into any debate about this, that's my opinion in which I hope is shared with anyone out there with half a heart or a shred of decency. I'm sorry, any man that can a) punch a kid and b) kick a kid or man in the head once he's on the ground is shameful !

not saying it's ideal but you can be sure he won't do it again, think what happens to the occupents of both vehicles if the driver hit by the snowball swerves into the path of an oncoming vehicle possibly a lot more than a broken jaw.

According to the local paper the Sport du Jour for the school kids that couldn't go to school because of the snow was to make their way out to the forest to ambush the winter cyclists who didn't see the funny side of it either.

Think you'll find your refering to a ' what if ' situation there, not ' actually ' what happened. We can all say what if this happened and what if that happened, plain facts are that tis is what actually did happen. Boy should not have thrown the snowball, really moronic thing to do and I'm sure he'll learn from it ( well hope so ) but if you take the actions of the driver and his assailant who I understand were no doubt angry to court if it goes that far, UK law and a judge will look at this one only one way, unreasonable force given the circumstances, simple as that, a disproportionate act which has resulted in a broken jaw. A window can be replaced, to kick some one in the face when they are down is a disgrace, 1000 times worse than a snowball to a window!

Hold on a minute.

You are looking at it very naively 'poor 16 year old child' :D

16 year old kids nowadays are not 16 year old kids from wartime picking up shrapnel & baking with Mother anymore.

Most 16 year old boys are sitting on the street corner drinking Tyskie with their aggressive dogs & ugly girlfriends!

You are an absolute disgrace and should feel utterly ashamed. Gangs of kids have been seen throwing at traffic from Merryoak Wreck a few times in recent years. Behaviour like that just leads to tempers flaring...

...but no excuse to assault the kid. Guy should have phoned Plod and kept hold of the lad.
Just asking, where's Merryoak Wreck? There's the Veracity ground, Merryoak Green and Freemantle Common/Donkey common but never heard of Merryoak Wreck.
We used to call the Veracity the "Wreck" when I was at school. Perhaps it's nickname has changed now, then?

The woodland down by Bunnies we used to call "The Valley" too. Never been one, obviously, but when you're a kid.

stupid remark do you think plod would be interested for a minute with the pressure to massage crime figures?
if he held onto the kid he would probably end up on the sex offender's register. i had the same when i was on a pushbike, assuming he got the right kid he desrved it
Here here, it's about time someone gave these feral kids a lesson about the consequences of their poor behaviour!.
If thats the way you two think then you're the ones that are feral and in need of a moral compass.

You get the Police involved, end of story. The Police can decide if its worth their time, they would most likely help sort out contact with the parents for damages too (and this happened a couple of years back when a local kid rode his bmx into my Uncle's car, the Police were very helpful)

Well if the driver was driving at the time and the group threw snowball breaking his window perchance the guys thought it was attempted murder? Maybe that’s why he was so angry as someone could have potentially killed him and his friend...

As to the argument that they are "kids" if they are over 16 means they are old enough to reproduce by law. If your are man enough to break peoples property you are man enough to face consequences whatever they might be.

The British culture is shocking in some cases and really does mean more and more young people think they can literally get away with murder because "they are only kids". I knew **** well right from wrong as far back as I remember. Trust me when I say that there is nothing innocent about today’s 15-16 year old.

If that was me, my old man would have said I deserved it and shouldn’t have been hanging out with Yobs breaking people’s things and expecting nothing to come of it. Probably would have hit me one as well.

I am of the opinion, that the police should go in to schools, and explain the dangers of throwing things at moving cars, and back up the information with graphic pictures of the results,
the kids think it is a laugh, but the results could be fatal

First of all there is no evidence that the car window got broken, what a load of rubbish if your car window got broken then you would call the police and make an insurance claim of course if the car was even insured. i know this lad and he is a very nice polite boy snowballs wernt being thrown at cars they were throwing them at each other and unfortuantly one hit a passing car unfortunatly with thugs driving, that shouldnt even be on the road with disgusting behavior like that they need to get locked up

Sorry but I feel the kid was victimized, the guy who broke his jaw has no idea who in the group threw the snowball, whether it was even someone from their group or even if it was done on purpose, for all the stupid, mindless thug knows, it could have come from a garden after being thrown too hard and the badly aimed snowball just happened to hit his car, to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if the driver was a drug dealer with an attitude and temper like that.
