Unions stage 'Stand Up For The South Coast' protest
7:41am Saturday 26th January 2013 in News
A previous union protest against council cuts
TRADE unions from across the south will converge on Southampton city centre today as they battle the worst cuts ever.
Under the banner of “Stand up on the South Coast”, the protesters will meet at the Guildhall at 11.45am before rallying outside WestQuay shopping centre.
Organiser Darren Proctor said: “There are a lot of cuts in Southampton that are going to have big knock-on effects in the community.”
The council is planning to make the most wide ranging cuts the city has ever seen.
Among those hit are youth services, evening and weekend bus subsidies, library services and huge care charge hikes are planned for disabled adults.
Southamptn city council is planning up to £20 million worth of cuts to services.
They are due to decide which services will be cut at a budget meeting next month.

nice to know there are enough well off people to fund a day trip to southampton, a lot of people are cutting back and can't afford leisure trips like this, they are have to save their petrol spend for essential travel. nice to see those with large disposable income and wealth to show off have a little parade.

The Socialist Party in the Uk are in every city and town, so when some thing happens in one place it is pass on to all other branches,
You see how that works now Loose. the internet as made it quicker to pass on the info from one branch to another.
Part of our TUSC national manifest is to have a vote on the EU, Socialist do not need such a thing as the EU to be able to work with other countrys, its only capitalist that need such a thing.
Loose take a look at the countrys that are not a mess and every one of them have at lest a 40% socialist economic and political policy and have not had any austerity measures at all and there economy as not gone into recession.
Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, France, heck I don't think there is one country in Europe that have not had and still are handing out austerity measures and they are all in a mess at lest like the UK or worse.
Austerity don't work it creates higher unemployment, lower wages which kills the economy. People don't have the money so they will not spend like they use to, which as a knock on effect of more people losing there jobs so more cuts are needed.

It was so very kind of you to go to all that trouble just to post this data on a fairly insignificant local rag website. That they know so much more than the statistics from the official UK census is of course obvious to all.

There is no Committee Workers Internationali.
But Committee for a Workers' International (CWI) was formed on 21 April 1974. It’s a Trotskyist (not Socialist) club for national Trotskyist parties. southy’s very own Socialist Party (England and Wales) is an official national section. It does have sections in over 40 countries as well as affiliates in other countries that are not full sections.
southy, I bet you can’t provide one single URL to the effect that CWI was formed in 1914. I ask for a URL as on this very story you were only too willing to direct up to a website of a local rag in Staffordshire which you thought was good for your purposes. So now, put up your 1914 evidence. Come on.

Southy when will you thomas,Morrel & all your TUSC take a look at the mess countries who didn't commit to an austerity package are in & now they're being bailed out the austerity measures are harsher than they would have been?
Surely the TUSC must want out of the EU?
The £14billion we save could help you out when all our cities go bankrupt as they've cut nothing council tax is so high the list of defaulters so long it would take years to take them all to court but you & Labour/union members on here can't see that can you?
The Tory-led coalition, after having been more than two years in power, is taking us into a triple-dip recession.
Of course, it is not their fault.
It is the fault of Gordon Brown, the Germans and the French. Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy and the Irish Republic. Not forgetting the Americans as well as the Chinese and Japanese.
Cameron and Osborne are, of course, entirely blameless, and I have just spotted a swarm of pigs flying overhead.
Raise council tax?
Did we not learn anything from the debacle that was Liverpool Council & Southamptons Labour Council under June Bridle who took that very path to the point successive labour & Tory councils haven't as of yet managed to get all the arrears paid.
Keep those taxes lower people can afford to pay so in the long run you end up collecting more money or can't you see that?
When will you realise the coalition has got it wrong?
As long as it is Tory-led.
Never.
Take the blinkers off.
UKIP are pushing the Liberals even further down & Cameron has just announced an in out referendum on Europe.
Clegg has to distance himself pretty sharpish or he'll be fighting to stay leader The Liberals have been going on about what they want but don't like it when Cameron talks of Tory wants.
When we came into this agreement & before the election every one was saying how Vince Cable was the best one to sort it out so why has he gone along with the cuts if he & the Liberals don't agree with it?
Linesman we were nose diving into bankruptcy & having to go to the IMF again under Labour we had a stupid note saying the cupboard was bare yes it was because Labour spent & spent to stay in power .
We have two Aircraft carriers we didn't need as the one we had still had life in her but we've now had to decommission her.
by buying those aircraft carriers we've had to cut jobs in all the services yet we have no planes for them was that good economic sense by Labour?
I personally wish the Government would take the bull by the Horns & hit the welfare system & stop people living the good life on the dole.
Stop people claiming for disabilities when there's nothing for them or people refusing to work as they can get more on the dole?
But Labour are saying they might do it but they said that before but never did it & the Liberals are stopping this Government from sorting it out properly.
Cut the welfare bill & the cuts in services would be a lot smaller than they are but I guess that would be the wrong way to go just hammer those who work & raise Taxes would be your way wouldn't it?
We seriously have to stop the breeding programme that so many unemployed think is acceptable.
Going to work means they have to get up early & if they don't warrant working credits have to look for cheaper accommodation .
So even when farmers were crying out for workers our young who were offered the jobs said no thank you how can that be right?
Ed Balls said pile money into jobs & then you'll cut the welfare bill is he real?
we know that approximately 2million now can't or won't work so how is he going to get the won't work working?
Cut the Social payments or stop them?
What happens if they have children?
Here's an idea why not use places like Blighmont barracks to give these people a bed & a roof over their heads or they can get to work( the Polish find jobs so why can't they?) & buy or rent a home.
I can't believe what some say about the Polish taking all the jobs so we send them back to Poland will this see the Dole queue halved I doubt it as many of these jobs are there for the Poles because are lot don't want to work there.
Look Ironlady my father was in nick & we lived until he came out on the Social & we never lived a live of luxury .we had no choice but many on the dole now do but we have changed it use to be an insult to most people to be on the dole but now many find it an insult going to work?

You getting defaulters Loose because people don't have the money to pay there debts.
It is also well hidden after certified welding instructor etc.
So I take it you have the wrong site
Come on.
The Socialist Party as members in 187 countrys that I know off and also as under ground movenments other countrys like China where it is illegal to belong to the Socialist party.

he said the cuts in the first year which were severe were what was implemented by the out going Labour Government.
He said because of the note left by Labour they couldn't stop them & had to find out exactly how bad it was.
If the4y hadn't been implemented then they the4 coalition would have made the cuts elsewhere & started infrastructure building to create jobs so he said he was not talking about what the Tories had done but what Labour had done.
So Labour shafted us every which way
