NPA extends permission for housing scheme
DEVELOPERS have been given more time to forge ahead with a housing scheme that aims to transform an “eyesore” site in the New Forest.
If the scheme goes ahead 24 new homes will be built at Gosport Lane, Lyndhurst, on an overgrown plot behind the New Forest Centre.
The derelict land near the eastern entrance to the village is currently surrounded by hoardings – some of which have collapsed.
Planning permission for the homes was about to expire but the National Park Authority (NPA) has agreed to extend the time limit by 12 months in the hope of ensuring that the scheme goes ahead.
A report to members said: “A new developer has now come forward but has expressed a need for further time to implement the scheme.
“Given the long period that the site has been vacant, the time limit should only be extended by one year so that all parties can work towards ensuring the site is developed as quickly as possible.”
