SERVICES for disabled children across Hampshire could be in line for a cash boost of more than £2m.

Activity schemes, play sessions, respite breaks and youth clubs for children with disabilities would benefit by just under £1.9m.

Two other separate grants were also signed off by Hampshire County Council’s children’s services boss, Cllr Roy Perry.

These include a grant of just under £140,000 to help the Southampton-based Rose Road Association’s bridging worker scheme.

It will help the charity give intensive support to enable children and young adults with disabilities access mainstream children’s activities and services.

A further grant of just under £250,000 was handed to Parent Voice for its information and participation service which supports families by enabling them to access information about activities and support.

The cash is subject to the approval of the county council’s 2013/14 budget, which will be decided on February 21.

Cllr Perry said: “I want all children in Hampshire to be able to participate as fully as possible in a range of recreational and developmental experiences.

“I know how important these services are to families who have children with disabilities and additional needs.

“They are busy juggling the demands of family life and the extra support that their children need.

“Easy access to information provided by Parent Voice and the Rose Road Association, as well as that provided by our staff, is vital.

“The activities schemes ensure that children have a range of recreational activities while at the same time provide parents with a welcome break.”
