AN alien spaceship crash landed into the courtyard of Townhill Junior School yesterday as Year 6 tried their hands at reporting.

The exercise had children talking to the police, reporters and witnesses as they put together a police and newspaper report of the incident, practising their writing skills.

PCSO Mark Humble visited the school to help with the exercise and talk about what he would have to do if the incident had really happened.

The children, aged 10 and 11, were asked questions about what would be reported by the police, the difference between a police report and a newspaper report, and why each would be important in this situation.

Head teacher Matt Sambrook said: “It’s something we tried last year.

“Anything we think could be a little dry to teach we try to put a context around it to get the children more involved.”
