Car-sharing clampdown Car-sharing clampdown

WINCHESTER civic chiefs are poised to clamp down on unofficial car-sharing at the Hockley Viaduct, near Winchester.

Commuters have been parking at the lay-by on Hockley Link and sharing cars into work.

Vicki Weston, portfolio holder for planning and transport, is being urged to agree a four-hour waiting limit with no return for eight hours, Mondays to Saturdays, 8am to 6pm.

Do they want to cut down the number of cars in Winchester or not? I guess the answer is not unless they can make some money from it.

How is it un-official? All people are doing is sharing cars and parking legally to get into work. What's the problem?

oh for goodness sake who is the saddo that has taken the time to drive past that layby everyday to check out what cars are in there. Are they doing any harm by parking there? are they a danger or nuisance to other road users? Im guessing not but what they are doing is reducing the revenue taken at the Citys carparking meters. Greed sheer greed.

One minute we're encouraging car sharing and now they're whining about it. No wonder this country is in a mess, no-one knows what is right or wrong anymore.

Typical of the current councillors. Didn't they also complain when some people were using a car park just outside of the city centre and then getting a taxi for the final part of the journey. It cuts down on congestion - something that is a huge issue in Winchester - but reduces their revenue from car parks and street meters. It would seem money is more important than reducing traffic.

I wonder if the Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport has the use of a parking space and a car allowance? What a wonderful place Winchester City must be if this is all a Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport has to worry about!

It's probably an eye sore there now with cars parked all over the verges ect...Someones obviously complained. I agree it will just push the problem further up to the residential streets though.
