Well...
Yes....And No..

From a recent experience I can say that the doctors I met at Southampton general are superb.

It's such a shame that the hospital is a total dump, and should have been condemned years ago. Dirty, and undecorated for perhaps decades - an example of all that is wrong with the NHS.

Bring in compulsory health insurance for those who can afford it (like me), and go for as much privatised competition as possible.

Go abroad - it works.

I once was admitted to the old part of the RSH & I loved it but they did away with it but I've been up at the General once it had separate rooms for patients to go to & watch TV .this also could be used to go to when it was visiting time & you knew no one was coming so you could get out of the way.
I had a facial injury & had to go to Hospital no room any more no big TV on the ward but a little set you had to pay for & as I couldn't wear glasses I couldn't see the pictures so I was stuck with nothing to do in a cold ward as some patients had to be kept cool.
But taking all that to one side I hope this operation will save many lives as I've lost a brother through bleeding out

When the NHS was first set up private medicine was included with the income directed at the NHS. Thanks to the stupidity of COHSE and NUPE Barbara Castle was forced to take most of the private medicine from NHS hospitals therefore losing necessary income from the NHS. Nye Bevan must be spinning in his grave. A better idea would be to renationalise the whole lot.

The leader of Plaid Cymri ( welsh) said Wales wants to be in the EU as they get a lot of money from the EU? she seems to forget we the UK pay in £14billion does Wales get this back each year?
Al I agree with you about the short sightedness of the people who fought to rid the NHS of private patients & the monies they brought to the NHS

Further Nationalisation as a solution? Don't be so simplistic.The NHS is an uncontrollable behemoth supporting a million jobs - it is too big to run and its primary function is to keep all those jobs, forget what's good for patients. Shovelling money and resources into a broken unmanageable solution makes things worse, not better. If politicians weren't so terrified of the unions the NHS could be managed as a series of smaller autonomous businesses with freedom to outsource where it works and insource where it doesn't. Some of the best treatment in the NHS is currently being provided by private companies but because that doesn't fit with union jobs propaganda it is hushed up. The way to a better NHS is to use more outsourcing, not nationalisation.
