Residents asked for views on controversial road bollards

A CONSULTATION over the future of bollards that delayed ambulance staff trying to reach a sick two year- old is to be extended.

The Access to Whiteley consultation on the opening of the bus gate at Yew Tree Drive to all traffic has been extended by a week until February 17.

It asks what residents think about a trial sixmonth lowering of bollards that block the bus route.

This comes after an incident last Saturday night, in which a crew trying to reach Harry Rudge, who was suffering a suspected allergic reaction, had to divert, adding precious minutes to their journey.

The route can be used by emergency vehicles, but the crew did not have the device needed to lower the bollards.

I have only ever heard one person speak against the removal of the bollard. He happens to be a councilor, and he happens to live next to the blocked access road. Surprise, surprise.
