HUMAN remains have been discovered in Hampshire woodland, it was revealed today.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary’s major investigation team have sealed off an area of woods following the discovery of what they believe to be human remains.

Police were called by a member of the public at about 2.30pm on Wednesday, February 13, to an area of woodland off Basing Road, Old Basing.

The area is currently cordoned off while specialist teams carry out inquiries.

Hampshire police have not said whether the remains are a man or woman or if the death is being treated as suspicious.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Dave Brown said: “We are in very early stages of this investigation and are examining all possible scenarios.

“Initial enquiries are likely to take some time and we have a team of dedicated specialist officers working on this case.

“The area is likely to be cordoned off for some time, but members of the local community should be reassured that there isn’t any risk to the public.”
