A police appeal has been launched after a man was attacked as he walked over the footbridge in Southampton.

The 28-year-old Southampton man was walking on the footbridge from Marsh Lane to Chantry Road when he was passed by two men, one black and one white.

One of the two men punched the 28-year-old in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The victim suffered a swollen and black eye and grazes to his cheek, chin and shoulder.

The two men are described as 20 to 25 years old, slim and 5ft 10ins tall.

The black man was wearing a plain white tee shirt and blue jeans.

Police are appealing to the two men to contact them.

They also want to hear from anyone who witnessed the alleged assault between 1.30 and 2.30am, last Saturday.
