Selfless James is freeding the needy

Hampshire Hero - James Hillier. Hampshire Hero - James Hillier.

HE had already given up his Christmas Day to help deliver vital supplies to Southampton’s most needy people.

James Hilling’s selfless festive deed warmed the hearts of the community and won him January’s Hampshire Heroes award, after he braved the cold and rain to dish up hot meals to homeless people across the city.

But not content with his seasonal goodwill, James set up his stall in Hoglands Park again at the weekend – and he plans to make the event bigger and better throughout 2013.

James, 34, has joined forces with his former colleague, Reuben Stockwell, 33, and businesses from across Hampshire to form WuWu, which stands for Wash Up Warm Up.

Among the firms that have thrown their weight behind the scheme are the Waterfront pub, which has donated 150 portions of chilli con carne, Top Hat and Tail Cars, which is paying for the fuel costs, Trans construction, which is supplying a generator, and Premier Party Tent, which has provided a 40ft marquee to host the project.

And James hopes that the brand can branch out to offer homeless people a host of vital services by Easter. Anyone interested in helping James and Reuben, should email james.hilling.is@
