A thief conned his way into a pensioner's home and stole her purse.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a burglary in Locks Heath.

The incident occurred between 4pm and 7pm on Wednesday,in St Michael’s Road.

An unknown man knocked on the door of an 82-year-old woman and came into her home where he stole a blue purse containing about £100 in cash.

The suspect is described as:

  • White man
  • 35 to 40-years-old
  • Dark hair
  • Medium build
  • 5ft 6 to 5ft 10 tall
  • Local accent
  • Wearing a dark jacket.

Police staff investigator Jane Dye from Gosport police station said: “I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of St Michael’ Road at the time of this incident and saw anything suspicious.

"Did you see a man running from this direction? Did you receive a knock on your door from an unknown man?

“The stolen purse was dark blue with a tapestry strip down the front. Please hand this into your local station if found.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Police staff investigator Dye at Gosport police station by phoning 101.
