Maria Hutchings, Conservative candidate for Eastleigh 'has faith in Hampshire schools'
2:19pm Monday 18th February 2013 in News
By Luke Tugby, Senior reporter
Conservative candidate Maria Hutchings says she has “full confidence” in Hampshire's education system.
Mrs Hutchings praised the county's schools after coming under fire for claiming that state education would not help her son become a heart surgeon.
As reported in today's Daily Echo, National Health Action Party candidate, Dr Iain MacLennan, labelled Mrs Hutchings' remarks as “disgraceful”.
But the Tory candidate explained her comments today, as she continued her by-election campaign by canvassing voters in Hedge End.
Speaking to the Daily Echo after visiting residents in Pudbrooke Gardens, Mrs Hutchings said: “I've got four children. I went to state school, my husband went to state school, my eldest daughter went to state school and my next child went to state school.
“My daughter is on the list for Wildern or Wyvern in September, so I have full confidence in the education here in Hampshire.
“My son is gifted - I needed to find the right place for him.
“When I was talking to the original journalist I was referring to when he was five years old. I couldn't find the right provision for where I was living at that time, not Eastleigh.
“I was telling the journalist that when my son was 12 years old, he had a careers talk and they had a cardio-respiratory surgeon come down and he said he wanted to be a cardio-respiratory surgeon. And it was nothing linked to state schools.
“This is something that's been mish-mashed together by somebody else.
“The fact that I've my youngest daughter on the list for Wildern or Wyvern in September surely tells you what I think of local education here.”
Home Secretary Theresa May, who was on the campaign trail with Mrs Hutchings in Hedge End this morning, said: “Parents will always have to make decisions about what is right for their children.
“What we want to see across the whole of the state sector is ensuring that they are providing education that is right for every child and education that is rigorous.”
Mrs May also hit back at critics from opposition parties who claimed that Mrs Hutchings has not lived in the constituency for as long as she has suggested during her campaign.
She added: “Maria has been absolutely clear about how long she has lived here. I've just been standing on a doorstep with her and she said to somebody I've been here for five years.
“But what she has done over those five years is she has really fought for local people, she has campaigned with them on issues, she has worked with local charities, she has worked with local voluntary groups.
“She has shown that she is somebody who as a member of parliament would really care about Eastleigh, take on the issues of people here, and I think, be the best voice for Eastleigh.”

Just think about it before you vote, these people believe there own B.S., do you really want that to represent you, you only have to look at the out going M.P. for proof of that, trust me if voting actually changed anything, those in power would abolish it.

A long winded excuse by a Tory paper for their candidate being too honest for the electorate, you don't get the education to be a heart surgeon at school, that comes later at uni so the excuse really misses the point. Funny thing is I would also want the best for my children and if I could have afforded to send them to Eton I would have, especially since I have seen the wonders they can perform for their obviously academically challenged pupils. The PIP (pair in power) are testament to this.

I don't know whether or not to be impressed when someone writes on here bragging how well they have done, when they cannot even string together a sentence, or spell what they are trying to say, correctly.
Sad to say, it's very hard to believe people who would want to big themselves up, including Ms Hutchings, when it's clear that they have not the faintest idea of their subject. To me, all this is a very tragic indication of exactly how far this country is sinking.

Most people have always known that putting trust in Tories means pushing the luck bit too far.
That's why last election they could not make majority, but the habitual liars the sugar coated Tories the most unprincipled LibDem jumped with their bed to screw the nation.
That is why Eastleigh is the chance to tell both these parties what most people think of them?

I would suggest that it is your own goodself who is encouraging ignorance, whilst I am in fact encouraging education. So sad that you want to attack those who are trying to help others to better themselves. Can I ask you why it is you feel that people have to live in perpetual ignorance?

Neither went to university, the daughter who is a director in a bank did her degree and other financial qualifications by distance learning whilst working at the bank and has worked her way up.
Her best friend at the state school went on to become a radio presenter.
A very dear friend of mine sent her son and daughter to private schools because her son was very gifted.
Neither have done particularly well, her son was selling bathrooms and her daughter is a care worker.
One of my grandsons is a bar man and he went to private school.
Private school's pupils do well when they can get into the family business or have parental contacts or friends that smooth their path.
Not so sure state schools will be as good now Gove has been messing around with them though.
Good parenting, good guidance, a positive attitude and hard work are the prerequisites for a good education in either Private or State schools.
(I guess if you're paying you have a greater expectancy of achievement and in most cases, that's what you will get!)

Look at the Echo who have they been doing majority storys on any Right Wing Party and there favourit seems to be UKIP printing in there favour, We all ways knew the Echo was Capitalist supporting paper just did not relise how far right wing they are.

Meanwhile, as you have already told us that 90% of the internet is incorrect false propaganda, I don't think I'll take the chance of believing this is the wonderfully true 10%.
Left wing do not control the media, Capitalist controls that. Capitalist and its right wing supporters, controls TV, Radio, Films, Newspapers and the majority of the internet (Murdoch wants to totally control the internet).
Look at the Echo who have they been doing majority storys on any Right Wing Party and there favourit seems to be UKIP printing in there favour, We all ways knew the Echo was Capitalist supporting paper just did not relise how far right wing they are.
Look what ITV done on the local news, when it came to the Hustings where all partys was represented, they showed a bit on Torys, Labour, Lib/Dems and UKIP so what about the rest nothing, They dare not show the whole hustings on TV because of Gavin showed what all the other party are about more so Lib/Dems, Torys, Lab and UKIP, He ask them questions that they would not answer over Jobs, NHS, Education, MP's wages and expenses. The people at the husting endded supporting and agreeing with Gavin and not the other partys, but they are not going to show you the full husting on tv or let you listen to it on radio, it was on youtube for just under 2 hours before it got removed.
The powers to be do not want any one seeing or hearing about any alteritive, it might give people ideas to it the system that we have is wrong.
Now this £120 billion. Apparently it has been 'evaded' not avoided according to Daz. So, the accusation is that these big corporations are acting illegally.
Don’t know where they got this figure from and over how long a period it has been accumulating. These sorts of details are totally missing from this presentation.
And anyway, the public sector net debt was £1,111.4 billion at the end of December 2012. So this £120 billion, even if was illegally withheld, and we could actually collect it, wouldn’t make much of a dent. We are still in a huge financial mess to which TUSC has no practical solutions.

freefinker wrote:You mean the way ITV, air brushed out the TUSC out of the Hustings on Sunday making it look like Gavin never said a thing, when he got the room agreeing with him, and not the other partys.

Air brushed out the rest like a good Stalinist, have we?
Yep, that's the way to do it.
Mind you I not suprise, because Gavin showed those right wingers right up even the UKIP lot.
And when you take into account how the media is not giving the TUSC the coverage, they are doing the best out of the lot of them, when media coverage is taken into account.
