Poachers fined Poachers fined

TWO Southampton men have been fined after they were caught poaching on the River Itchen near Winchester.

James Furber, 36, of Orchard Lane, and Daniel Payne, 25, of Park Road, Freemantle, were stopped at Hockley on August 10, Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court heard.

Each man was fined £27 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and costs of £25.

It doesn't say if they were using rod and reels but I draw the line at fishing from a public stretch and casting into a private stretch and trotting it across the boundary.

The water it self can not be owned, only the river bed, so casting and/or letting across the boundry is legal so long as it don't touch the river bed or the river bank on the other side of the boundry.

Same rules apply if your in a boat on the water, your allowed so long you don't touch private owned land.

Southy is right, so long as you don't touch private land/property, there is nothing illegal about it since water can't technically be owned as it is constantly moving... Unless you're talking about a lake.
