Man spared jail after indecent images of children downloaded
A Chandler's Ford man was spared a prison sentence after a judge accepted that he had not sought to download indecent images of children but had acquired them in a mass download via a subscription he had held for two years with an American pornography site.
Judge Susan Evans told John McCall he had failed to deal with the problem by either deleting the material or reporting it.
The 29-year-old was arrested after police went to his home in Falklands Road, Chandler’s Ford, and found almost 8,500 images on his computer in his bedroom.
Prosecutor Caroline Branford-Wood said all bar 20 were in the level one category, the least serious.
McCall was placed on supervision for 18 months with an order to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work for the community.
He was also disqualified from working with children and placed on the sex offenders’ register.
