A BAND fronted by a former Southampton schoolboy lost out on all three of their Brit award nominations last night.

Alt-J, featuring Joe Newman from Highfield, lost out to Ben Howard for Best British Breakthrough Act while awesome foursome folk group Mumford and Sons pipped them for Best British Group.

But the big award for the night - Best Album - went to Emile Sande for her record Our Version Of Events.

Alt-J's album, An Awesome Wave, clinched them a Mercury Prize in November was also up against Mumford And Sons release Babel, Plan B's Ill Manors and Paloma Faith's Fall To Grace for the gong.
