Harman claims Labour are serious about Eastleigh by-election
10:40am Monday 25th February 2013 in News
Harriet Harman on the campaign trail with Labour candidate John O'Farrell.
LABOUR’S second-in-command has denied her party is fighting the byelection with the sole intention of splitting the vote.
Deputy leader Harriet Harman said their candidate, John O’Farrell, was serious about winning an historic victory for Labour by returning their first MP in generations in the constituency.
She said: “We are not doing any political games here, we are just putting forward a very strong candidate with a strong platform to speak up for Eastleigh in some very difficult times.
“We are down here because people in Eastleigh are facing problems, worries about whether their kids are going to get their first job, whether or not they will be able to get a home of their own, whether they are having to cut back on things or whether their standard of living can be improved.
“We are not here to second guess the voters or predict the outcomes of byelections, we are here to see how people have had their confidence broken by the Tories and the Lib Dems.
“We are encouraging people to vote Labour and we have every confidence in an excellent candidate.
“Unfortunately too many or our predictions about the effect of the Lib Dems/Tory Government’s economic policies have come true and the difficulties are only getting worse and the Government will not change course.”

.. I suppose you have to pretend you are in it to win; no point in standing otherwise. But I think Ms. Harperson knows full well they are fighting to retain third place against the protest vote being attracted by UKIP.
OK, my cards on the table, here’s my analysis. The LibDems will lose many votes, not because of Huhne but due to their treachery in getting into bed with the Tories and tearing up their commitments, especially on tuition fees.
However, the Tories will also lose votes, mainly to UKIP as many of their more out of touch supporters can actually vote for their ‘Little Englander’ beliefs at a by election without affecting the overall outcome at Westminster.
So, who wins? I think the Tories by a small margin. Behind these two a good showing from UKIP will knock NuLabour into fourth place. National Health Party hopefully retaining their deposit in fifth. Of the rest, I expect at least one candidate to beat TUSC.

Why waste your vote on these champagne socialist who wouldn't know a working class person if they fell over them. Militant minorities Rule OK!... sod the silent majority hey Stephen!
Sounds to me like the UKIP manifesto really was written some 40-odd years ago. Who are they against? "Wreckers of law and order. Communists, Maoists, Trotskyists, neo-Trotskyists, crypto-Trotskyists, union leaders, Communist union leaders, atheists, agnostics, long-haired weirdos, short-haired weirdos, vandals, hooligans, football supporters, namby-pamby probation officers, rapists, papists, papist rapists, foreign surgeons - headshrinkers, who ought to be locked up, Wedgwood Benn, keg bitter, punk rock, glue-sniffers, "Play For Today", Clive Jenkins, Roy Jenkins, Up Jenkins, up everybody's, Chinese restaurants - why do you think Windsor Castle is ringed with Chinese restaurants?"
They realise the sort of people they're going to attract, don't they?

Considering I canvassed for your candidate, I only wish your dream may get realised. BUT I am afraid it most definitely is not going to happen.
In fairness of Harriet Harman and many others like John Denham have given this by-election their best shot.
But by stitching up the selection, the Party has undermined their efforts from the very start.
While fooling the membership and the public by enacting the drama of democratic selection of candidate the so called leadership (which in fact has started to resemble dictatorship of champagne socialists) in reality was involved in typical NuLabour sham/scam.
Selection was a stitch up, to favour a comedy writer who has turned out to be a complete clown.
Secrets of what the mobsters at the top of your party actually wanted have now come out. NuLabour begged another lady (Fiona Phillips) from media world to be their candidate, but when even she refused they found their second choice with similar background, because real intention of the NuLabourites is not to have hard working MP who may serve the people but more and more of spin doctors like certain Prince of Darkness Peter Mandelson.
Is this not yet one more proof that when Miliband announced the NuLabour is dead, he was not telling the real truth?
NuLabour is still alive, which people of Eastleigh are likely to reject, because they very rightly deserve and want The Labour.
In my view with both Lib Dem and Tories while in bed in London and at each others throats in Eastleigh plus U kippers harming Tory votes this by-election was easily winnable by NuLabour provided the behaved like The Labour i.e. decent candidate with reputation for having his own mind and record of working for the people plus experience.
Yes NuLabour has put lots of resources in the campaign, I hope for your beloved party's sake I get proven wrong, but sadly the campaign is being run according to DIY manual 'How to lose elections' by lots and lots of geeks.
I am aware that there are plenty to very experienced people still stranded within NuLabour who know how to connect with average voters and how to win elections with proper campaign, why they have not been used?
If it ends up into disaster for NuLabour on Thursday, it will be of leaderships own making.

Clegg, who is supposed to be the leader of his party, but first he claims that he did not know that complaints had been made about a prominent LibDem grandee, then says that he thinks he did hear something.
That's the sort of wishy-washy leadership he gives.
Cameron, on the other hand, gives a hand out to Fords on the eve of them emigrating from Eastleigh to Turkey. With his Public School eduction, he comes to Eastleigh to support the Tory candidate who claims that locals schools are not good enough for her genius son, but good enough for the plebs in Eastleigh.
I find it a trifle ironic that a Lancashire Lad should be mouthing off about a the London political elite coming to Eastleigh. At least London is a lot nearer than Lancashire Bah Gum!

Your cheap jibe of UKIP supporters being little Englanders is so rich when it is New Labour's thirteen years of hurt, and continued by this Liberal Coalition that has not just made England almost insignificant but the whole of the UK. So thanks to thirteen years of New labour under very pro EU; Blair and Brown and now Europhile Clegg we are very much little Britain controlled by the European political elite in Brussels & Strasbourg. If you not only want to make England but Britain great again then cut us free from this dead man walking; the failed European Union. Let's rediscover our pride in our once great nation and put the great back into Britain by using the business language of the world ENGLISH to trade with everyone; without the red tape and heavy restrictions our continued membership of this union of losers. Yes I am proud to be English and proud to be British and only our independence from the EU can set us free... and for me that freedom and indepence is priceless; it is the cosy pro EU folk who want to keep us little England, in fact they don't want us to be English, Welsh, Scots or Irish or Brits even they want us all to be Europeans...There is nothing little about Norway or Switzerland who are both very rich nations enjoying their freedom of being in Europe and trading with the world , without being members of the EU club.

Why isn't (Defunct SHA) the South Central Strategic Health Authorities Fluoridation of Eastleigh's water an issue in this By-Election?..
We all know Nu-Labour is for Fluoridation is John O’Farrell?
1) Labour Party's Socialist Health Association advocate the Fluoridation of all drinking Water.
2) Labour Party's Socialist Health Association advocates the adding Fluoride to all Milk ( when all Milking Cows will be drinking Fluoridated Water ?)
3) Labour Party's Socialist Health Association advocates the promotion of Fluoride products in all Schools, Anti-natal sessions etc.
