World food event gives people a taste of different cultures

TUCKING IN: To treats from around the globe TUCKING IN: To treats from around the globe

FROM sushi to chicken jalfrezi, dishes from across the world were celebrated at World Food Night at Avenue St Andrews Church in Southampton The event, run by the Refugee Action charity, celebrated the positive contribution that migrant communities have made to culinary traditions in the UK.

There were more than 200 people from different communities across Southampton who shared dishes from all over the world.

There was also singing from the Nightingales singing group and dancing from Poppin’ Ron who appeared on the TV show Got to Dance.

Refugee Action area manager Mike Brown said: “The idea of this is sharing culture through food. It is a way that people can come together. It was amazing how many different dishes there were.”

Same here. I often see things that I'd like to attend in the Echo, but only after the event. The event listings on here and the council site are so rammed full of regular classes and mum&toddler groups that it's nigh on impossible to spot the interesting stuff.

Hello Uberarticuno, cantthinkofone and Subject48,

The posters and leaflets advertising the event were placed in all city libraries, major community centres and cafes, shops, etc. I'm sorry you missed the event. The best way to be fully up-to-date is to keep an eye on the further news and activities on the Refugee Action website (www.refugee-action.
org.uk).
