SAINTS, snow and TV show Splash!

These are just some of the top topics that get people in Southampton talking online.

Now conversations and trends across the city have been captured in a unique digital portrait of Southampton by artist, Brendan Dawes.

The artwork, which was commissioned by digital communication company EE, captured conversations on social media and topics trending across the city for three days in January.

Working with the University College London (UCL) Dawes looked at Sport, politics, film, music, education, culture and weather as the chosen topics of choice.

From January 19 to 21 January, the snow, celebrity diving on splash and the shock sacking of Nigel Adkins became talk of the town, but some more serious topics got people talking too like the EU and money.

Leader of the Council, Richard Williams, said: “The Digital Portrait is a way of connecting many different views on art and technology. By targeting the art at the social media environment allows us to show how art can be a part of the Facebook / Twitter world. I hope it will inspire a new generation of artists to come forward.”

The artwork is now on display at Southampton City Art Gallery.
