Plans to target anti-social behaviour

ANTISOCIAL behaviour and maintenance problems are among the issues targeted in a new licensing scheme in four areas of Southampton.

The new scheme will give more powers to the council to tackle issues in areas with a high number of houses of multiple occupation.

It will be rolled out in the Bevois, Bargate, Portswood and Swaythling wards on July 1, and may then be introduced across the whole city.

Licensing will allow the council to more easily tackle problems such as poor property conditions, poor management and antisocial behaviour.

Cabinet member John Noon said: “It’s not going to solve all of the problems, but it will improve living conditions.”
