Dock workers death: no asbestos link

A FORMER dock worker’s death was not down to asbestos exposure, an inquest heard.

Brian O’Dell, 79, of Redbridge Hill, Shirley, Southampton, died on September 9, 2012, after being diagnosed with cancer in 2008.

Mr O’Dell was a former stevedore at Southampton docks and his family believed working with asbestos material in the past may have contributed towards his illness.

But the hearing heard the substance was not related to his large tumour.

Southampton coroner Keith Wiseman recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
