Hospital unsung heroes honoured

Southampton General Hospital's unsung heroes were rewarded at a glittering ceremony last night.

Hampshire TV celebrity Esther rantzen presented the awards at the Novotel in Southampton.

Among those honoured was cancer nurse Donna Sharland who won the Daily Echo's Hospital Hero Award.

Below is a list all the winners and runners up.

 

CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S EMPLOYEE FO THE YEAR

Winner – Pauline Nyman, ward clerk on coronary care unit

Runner-up – Gabriel Jaramazovic, HR business partner

 

TEAM OF THE YEAR

Winner –Diabetes outreach team

Runner-up – Emergency department assault data team

 

CHAIRMAN'S AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP

Winner – Annette Purkis, head of therapies

Runner-up – Caroline Marshall, divisional clinical director

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Winner – ePrescribing team, pharmacy

Runner-up – Inpatient diabetes team

 

EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY

Winner – Black and minority ethnic network executive committee

Runner-up - Amarjit Jassi, finance manager

 

PATIENT'S EXPERIENCE

Winner – Dr Harry Akerman and Dr Paul Trumplemann, consultant anaesthetists

Runner-up – Dr Andrew Davies, consultant in cancer care

 

PATIENT SAFETY

Winner – Gail Byrne, head of patient safety

Runner-up – David Weeden, associate medical director for patient safety and thoracic surgeon

 

SOUTHAMPTON HOSPITAL CHARITY STAR AWARD

Winner – Fiona Delement, play specialist in child health

Runner-up – Joan Newman, bone marrow transplant specialist

 

GIFT OF TIME VOLUNTEER AWARD

Winner – Cake and concert team: Gary Guthrie, Val Osborne, Ezri Tigan, Sarah Pool, Vera Archer, Jill Callaway

Runner-up – Frances Alderton and Jean Ellis, eye unit tea bar volunteers

 

UNSUNG HERO AWARD

Winner – Coral Martin, health care assistant in neurosurgery theatres Runner-up – Tremona Road School, child health

 

INNOVATION AWARD

Winner – Lucy Fairchild, staff nurse in surgery

Runner-up – Rebecca Cusack and Dominic Richardson, consultant intensivists

 

BEST CLINICAL IMPACT

Winner – Dr Simon Bourne, COPD research programme

 

RESEARCH INDIVIDUAL OR TEAM OF THE YEAR

Winner – Lymphoma research team

 

CONTRACT COMMERCIAL RESEARCH HIGHEST PERFORMER

Winner – Dr Saul Faust, consultant in child health

 

SOUTHERN DAILY ECHO'S READERS' CHOICE HOSPTIAL HEROES AWARD

Winner – Donna Sharland

I don’t have a problem with a small token of gratitude to certain members of staff (pity it appears to be only limited to staff of one trust) Most staff I see work very hard and if you begrudge the winners a certificate probably made of card costing mere pennies, and you want me pay for your share?, hold on I’ll find a penny for you if it’s too much for you
