Disgraced former couple will face sentencing together

Disgraced MP Chris Huhne and his ex-wife, Vicky Pryce, will be sentenced on Monday, the Crown Prosecution Service said today.

The former couple are both facing jail terms at the hearing at Southwark Crown Court at 2pm.

Pryce was found guilty by a jury yesterday of perverting the course of justice by taking speeding points for Huhne in 2003. The former energy secretary had already pleaded guilty to the charge.

Perverting the course of justice carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, although the average sentence is around 10 months.

Both 58-year-old Huhne and economist Pryce, 60, have been warned to be under no illusion about what punishment they face.

Let's see if there's one rule for them and another for us! 10 years each inside, sounds good to me.

The CPS sentencing guidelines indicate that the average period of imprisonment for this offence is between 12-36 months, so how you work out 10 years is slightly beyond my understanding.

She's prob gonna get longer than him on account of him pleading guilty. She should get an extra six months for using marital corecion as a defence for a start.

Definitely not offences appropriate for imprisonment. Prison should be reserved for repeat serious offenders and violent offences.
Community based punishments, though currently thin on the ground, or suspended sentences etc are the appropriate outcomes for this type of offence and the absence of any risk of re-offending.

Fine them the total costs for trial and what it would cost for prison term and all the money he has earned as a mp while waiting for the trial and triple it to teach these corrupt deviants a lesson.
